Top 50 Wines of 2017

Each year, we take a look back at some of the most memorable wines and vintages from the year. This year's top 50 is full of some stunning wines that are sure to  impress any palate.

#1 Wine of the Year
2014 Waters, Syrah, Old Stones
Walla Walla Valley, Washington

100% Syrah from “The Rocks District” region of the Walla Walla appellation that resides on the Oregon side of the valley. Highly aromatic with Northern Rhone resemblance. Grilled meats and bacon scents meet notes of turmeric, crushed violet, crushed rock and cigar smoke that are followed by aromas of blueberry, huckleberry and smashed blackberry with hints of olive, sandalwood, sage and eucalyptus.
The palate is even more dynamic with gorgeous full fine-grained tannins, juicy berry acidity and flavors that envelope the palate with ripe blueberry, huckleberry and boysenberry notes that are intertwined with sarsaparilla, cola, smoke, violets, herbs, earth, charred grilled steak, pepper, turmeric and hints of wet stone and olive. Long and lingering on the finish. An exceptional Syrah that displays terroir and great winemaking.
Sadly the last vintage of this bottling.
