From the benchmark 2018 vintage, this iconic and cult like producer produced one of the wines of the vintage that should not be missed. The Spottswoode estate is located on the Western edge of St. Helena and has been organically farmed since 1985. The 2018 has splashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot supporting the Cabernet Sauvignon and is brought up in 65% new French oak with a touch (7%) of Hungarian oak for 20 months. 
The wine is saturated in the glass with an almost inky deep red color with purple hues. Aromas from the glass are explosive and intense showing rich notes of crème de cassis, blackberry and blueberry that weave into the notes of dark chocolate, spice, cardamom and floral notes, pencil shavings, tobacco leaf and rocky earth. 
On the palate this wine shows pure power and intent, exceptionally young but put together almost perfectly. Tannins fill the whole of the palate and are fine and suave. Acidity is perfectly balanced and tuned. Flavors coat the palate in a robe of fruit that shows blackberry, cassis, plum and dark cherry that give way to the notes of pencil, chocolate, spice, earth, fine leather and floral pastilles. The finish is unending and lingers with intensity. A truly magnificent wine that will age with the best in the world. A wine that will be talked about for many years to come
